Amber is a preacher’s kid from DFW who grew up with a passion for her faith and was shocked when that experience couldn’t help her get sober. In January of 2019, after ten years of battling a severe opiate addiction and suicidal ideations, Amber checked herself into a 90-day inpatient treatment center. There, she had a new experience with God through working the 12 Step program of action. Leaving her daughter, then just four years old, felt impossible but she knew she had to take care of herself to be able to show up as a mother. After treatment, Amber moved into the Colmar house of Simply Grace and stayed for three months; adjusting to life in the real world and easing back into time with her daughter. She now has 50/50 custody and is able to be the mom she never knew she could be. Because of her experience, Amber is passionate about helping other women, and particularly moms, in recovery. She hopes to use her position to help empower the residents and community to rebuild their lives, their relationships, their self-esteem and to help them gain the freedom they need to live a beautiful life. In short, she hopes to give back all of the things that she was given by going through this process.
